A disneyfication of Area 51.

I was inspired by Violence of the threshold of detectability, witness testimonials and their relation to experiences, memories, and images. The threshold of detectability is about image resolution, and its power, and access.

Homey Airport, or Area 51 as it is referred to, is a US military airbase located in Nevada. Area 51 was a code name of the facility used during the Vietnam war. This location is subject of many numerous conspiracy theories, such as hiding evidence of UFOs and developing secret technology.

By accident, I found google reviews about Area 51. Obviously, these reviews were faked, filled with irony and humor. The reputation of area 51 is widely recognized, and these reviews take advantage of it. Fake experiences are twisted and turned into fiction, creating a fantasy-like reality, a non-existent place.

In my video experiment, I wanted to use the written reviews and turn Area 51 into a fantasy-like place. A lot of the reviews were hinting Area 51 as an amusement park.
So I wanted to create just that. However, the visuals tell a different story: showing the shady side of Area 51.

In a way, Area 51 doesn’t exist, at least by that name. It is a code name, a pen name, a moniker. However, the code name has become the name that it is referred to by the public. The military air base has many names. Its existence has been denied and then acknowledged.

Are 51 has been the subject of numerous speculations, from hiding alien bodies to creating time-travel technology, to developing hi/tech weapons.

There are myths, stories and conspiracy theories related to this because of secrecy

: the transformation (as of something real or unsettling) into carefully controlled and safe entertainment or an environment with similar qualities

to disneyfy, to make something seem something else: polished, sleek. Twisting reality, but in a humorous way. Visuals are inspired by Youtube poop videos, which is a “branch” of memes, a type pf memes (meme videos, where Disney-movies and other are bended and twisted to something else.)
With the visuals and comments, I wanted to create a another reality
That is different from reality. The visuals are twisted, epileptic, out-of-this-world, and borrow the same
I chose the comments based on:
positivity, positive experience, irony, a few moments mentioned Disney world and amusement park, which contributed nicely to the story.
